CloudSigma Becomes Preferred Partner for Cloud Services to the GÉANT Academic Network

Zurich, Switzerland – October, 2017 – we are happy to announce that CloudSigma, a leading European infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) provider with headquarters in Switzerland and European subsidiaries in Germany and Poland, has been awarded a GÉANT Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) Framework Agreement after successfully meeting the selection criteria in the call for competition in late 2016. With this new partnership, CloudSigma is able to provide superfast connectivity to its academic customers.

GÉANT – Europe’s leading collaboration on network and related infrastructure and services for research and education, and operator of the GÉANT network that interconnects Europe’s National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) – carried out the pan-European tender for IaaS services together with its NREN partners in 36 countries. The aim was to allow research and education institutions to consume the cloud in a safe, easy and predictable way, with services that:

  • meet European and national regulations
  • have attractive pricing
  • are connected to the community’s networks and identity management capabilities
  • can be purchased in a controlled and transparent manner.

There was strong interest in the tender, with over 100 companies registering for the procurement. Successful providers have now become part of the GÉANT Cloud Catalogue IaaS portfolio.
