Zurich, Switzerland – October, 2017 – we are happy to announce that CloudSigma, a leading European infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) provider with headquarters in Switzerland and European subsidiaries in Germany and Poland, has been awarded a GÉANT Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) Framework Agreement after successfully meeting the selection criteria in the call for competition in late 2016. With this new partnership, CloudSigma is able to provide superfast connectivity to its academic customers.
GÉANT – Europe’s leading collaboration on network and related infrastructure and services for research and education, and operator of the GÉANT network that interconnects Europe’s National Research and Education Networks (NRENs) – carried out the pan-European tender for IaaS services together with its NREN partners in 36 countries. The aim was to allow research and education institutions to consume the cloud in a safe, easy and predictable way, with services that:
- meet European and national regulations
- have attractive pricing
- are connected to the community’s networks and identity management capabilities
- can be purchased in a controlled and transparent manner.
There was strong interest in the tender, with over 100 companies registering for the procurement. Successful providers have now become part of the GÉANT Cloud Catalogue IaaS portfolio.
“GÉANT is excited to work with CloudSigma on delivering great value, flexible IaaS solutions to research and education. The personal approach offered by CloudSigma will greatly benefit those users venturing into cloud services for the first time and will help enhance cloud adoption across all sectors of the community.”Erik Huizer, CEO @ GÉANT
As a leading European cloud provider, CloudSigma is focused on flexibility, performance and excellent customer support. Everything is offered via European companies and locations providing a 100% European law compliant solution without exposure to the US patriot act or other legal jurisdictions and complications.
CloudSigma is one of the most customizable cloud providers on the market. Customers are able to provision compute processing, storage, networks and other fundamental computing resources at one’s discretion, meaning CPU, RAM, Storage and bandwidth can be purchased independently to allow the best combination of cloud resources without the limitation of fixed server sizes. Customer deployments are like snowflakes; unique.
CloudSigma does not just aim to be the provider with the best customisation in the world, but also to provide its customers with the best customer service. The slogan of CloudSigma is “big enough to deliver and small enough to care”. All customers receive 24/7 live chat and email ticketing support for free with a responsive service. For example half or all live chats are responded to in less than 15 seconds. Additionally, every single customer of CloudSigma – no matter how big or small – gets a dedicated named account manager to take personal care of their cloud account.
A non-hierarchical and flexible organisational structure ensures efficient communication between the company and its customers. This company management structure facilitates direct interaction, allowing CloudSigma staff to quickly understand user pains and provide effective technical support and feedback requirements into our development process.
“At CloudSigma we have a long track record of working with international and academic institutions who utilise the GÉANT network heavily. We are therefore delighted to be deepening our collaboration with Dante to offer new services in a more integrated way together.”Robert Jenkins, CEO @ CloudSigma
CloudSigma has partnered with many academic organisations already connected to the GÉANT network thanks to common participation in a number of research and innovation projects facilitated by the FP7 and H2020 European funding programmes. Excellent working relationships have been forged with universities and research institutions such as the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, Westminster University, Brunel University, the Technical University of Berlin, Paderborn University, the National Technical University of Athens and many more. CloudSigma has gained detailed insight into the specific computing requirements of each partner, allowing for the provisioning and optimization of on-demand testing and research environments. In turn, these academic organisations have been able to benefit from a neutral platform with flexible resource configuration, and a highly knowledgeable support team located in Europe.
Additionally, CloudSigma has collaborated with a number of intergovernmental organisations such as the European Space Agency (ESA), the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN), the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), and the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), each benefiting from the excellent price-performance ratio offered by CloudSigma due to efficient resource purchasing and improved virtual infrastructure configuration.
GÉANT is Europe’s leading collaboration on network and related infrastructure and services for the benefit of research and education, contributing to Europe’s economic growth and competitiveness. The organisation develops, delivers and promotes advanced network and associated e-infrastructure services, and supports innovation and knowledge-sharing amongst its members, partners and the wider research and education networking community.
